Day 9 - Salzburg, Austria

As Rick Steves says, one of the fun parts of traveling is going into a store and trying to find something that might be toothpaste. For me it was baby powder that I forgot to pack, so mom and I went looking and eventually found some baby "puder".

Today we started off a little slower; although, I did not need my alarm to wake up. St. Peter's was ringing the church bells for what seemed like a few hours.

This morning we heard drums and cannons from the area of the St. Peter's Abbey. We saw a precession of people in traditional Austrian clothing and a guard that was dressed in 18th century garb. The cannons were being fired from the fortress.

Outside was a line of horse carriages.

Since it was raining, we decided to go indoors and took a tour of the Salzburg Residence. It's amazing to see how oppulent the archbishop lived while the parishioners lived in poverty. But then absolute power corrupts absolutely. Pictures were not allowed in the Residnce, but the tour passes through the Abbey. The organ was pretty impressive.

While at the Residence, we took in a baroque concert consisting of a harpsichord and soprano soloist.

Although many stores were closed, we still managed to find a bakery.

To show how close our hotel (Hotel Am Dom) is, St. Peter's church has the green dome.
