Had breakfast in the cafe at the hotel. The choices were amazing.
Then we went down to the waterfront and took the ferry to Bygdoy and went to 3 different museums. First was the Kon-Tiki museum. It was about Norwegian Thor Heyerdahl, an adventurer that set out to prove that people from Peru could have reached Polynesia in the Pacific Ocean. There was 5 other people in his crew, only one of which had any sailing experience. One, Knut Haugland, was a decorated veteran of WW2 known for his actions in the sabotage of the heavy water plant in Telemark, Norway. They spent 101 days at sea and made it to Polynesia on a balsa wood raft. The only thing missing from the museum pieces was a set of huge brass balls.
Next was the Fram Museum. This museum told the story of polar exploration. There was two large wooden ships in the museum, the Fram and the Gjoa which was the first ship to sail to through the Northwest Passage.
Then we went to the Norwegian Maritime Museum. All three of these museums are yards away from each other. This one had more modern displays of maritime history, but did have a smaller Viking boat downstairs and what looked like a shipbuilding workshop.
