Friday morning

Is was supposed to be light rain today but I did not see any signs of it this morning so we took the Metro over to the Colosseum and went for a walking tour of The Forum and Palatine Hill.

On top of Palatine Hill with the Colosseum in the background.

Palatine Hill is one of the 7 hills Rome was built on. It was the spot where Romulus, the founder of Rome, decided to build the city.

Looking down at The Forum from Palatine Hill.

From there we went down the hill to The Forum. Not much remains of the oldest ruins.

The place where it is said Julius Cesar was cremated.

Taking a quick break on 2000 + year old columns.

This is the spot where the Vestal Virgins guarded the eternal flame.
