Train from airport to Rome

So we found the train that would take us to town and found where to buy the ticket. Train and bus tickets a sold in tobacco shops. As we walking to the train the conductor starts blowing his whistle and hustle down and just barely make it on.

As the conductor comes to check our tickets he first gets in what appears to be a heated discussion with the lady next to us in Italian. I had a feeling whatever she did we did also because we both just barely made it on the train. And sure enough, he looks at my tickets and starts jiggering something. The lady explains to us that the three of us did not validate our tickets. The way it works is, after you buy a ticket, you have to validate it in a machine and then on the train the conductor will stamp it. The lady told us the fine could be 50 euros but he let us slide. We found out the lady works for British Airways and made her way from L.A., but missed her transition and had to fly to Rome and then take the train back to her home in Naples. The other eventful thing on the train is that a few minutes into the ride all the list went out and stayed out until we reached our destination. No idea how that happened.

Once we got to the station I decided to wing it and locate the hotel on instinct. Apparently my instinct only works in the states, because it took us a while to finally find it. The room is rather small with high ceilings. Were on the 6th floor. The place seems really clean on the inside, but the outside looks like someplace you don't want to be after midnight.

The lady on the train said pick-pockets are a real problem in Rome so I'll have to view everyone as a threat. They say women will use babies to distract you while they pick your pockets. Hopefully we don't become a statistic.
