Wednesday morning

Today we took the underground metro. That thing was James packed like you could not believe. It's a pickpocket's paradise down there. When the train starts to get near your stop, you'd better get close to the door because people getting on the train don't wait for people to get off.

Once off we and figured out where we were we made our first stop at Trevi Fountain. The fountain is tricky to find. It is sandwiched in-between buildings. All the pictures you've ever seen makes it appear as if it is a wide open space, but it is not.

It is said that if you toss a coin over your left shoulder into the fountain your will have a speedy return to Rome.

Next stop was the Pantheon. Unfortunately half of the exterior was covered with scaffolding. The inside was remarkable.

The oculus.

From there we headed to Piazza Narvona. In ancient times it was used for races. It looked small for chariots, but then we saw a really small chariot in one of the museums.

I don't remember what the names of the sculptors are, but apparently the person who made the main fountain did not think highly of the person who designed the building next to it. You'll notice one of the statues is shielding himself as if waiting for the building to fall on him.

From the we walked South to the Campo de Fiori, which is a market more for the locals.

From there we walked along the Tiber river. St. Peter's Basilica can be seen off in the distance.

Finally, we stopped for lunch. We covered a lot more ground than I thought we would this morning.
